Sarayubala Devi:

October-November 1914:

Now we had moved to a house in Baghbazar to be nearer Mother, whom I visited every evening......There would be singing at Mother's house today. The monks from Belur Math would sing kirtana (songs) in praise of the Goddess KAli.

The singing commenced at about half past eight in the evening...I had heard these songs before, but coming from the throats of these holy monks they had a special power and seemed charged with feeling. Tears came to my eyes.

Sometimes they sang songs that the Master used to sing and Mother cried eagerly, "Hear this now, the Master used to sing this!" Then when they commenced to sing, "Majlo AmAr man bhramarA...", she could lie down no longer; there were a few drops of tears in her eyes; she arose and said,
"Let us go to the veranda, my dear, and listen from there!"

When the signing was over, I took the dust from her feet and came home.
