Sarayubala Devi:

June, 1912 :

At seven in the morning today, I went to Gouri-Ma's school....At four I went to Mother's house with her. Mother was making the evening offerings. When she had finished, first Gouri-Ma and then I bowed to her. Gouri-Ma called her aside and after a little private conversation, sent for me. I had brought a garad (silk sAri) for Mother, which I placed at her feet and bowing to her said, "Wear it now, Mother."

Mother laughed and said, "Certainly I shall wear it."

Gouri-Ma began to praise me in an affectionate manner and Mother joined her....

A disciple had brought some full-blooming rose and hibiscus, a thick garland of jasmine, fruits and sweets. He placed these at Mother's feet and began to worship her. It was a beautiful sight. Mother sat motionless and smiling, the garland around her neck and the roses and hibiscus at her blessed feet.

When he had finished worshipping her, the disciple asked her to taste everything he had brought, so that he could take back some of his offerings as consecrated food. Hearing this, Gouri-Ma laughed and said, "Well, Mother, this time you must reckon with a determined follower and you will have to take something."

Mother laughingly protested, "No, no, not so much. I really couldn't eat so much," and tasting a little of the fruits and sweets, placed them in the disciple's hands. With elation he touched his forehead with each of the things, and bowing to Mother took his leave. Then Mother removed the garland from her own neck and placed it round Gouri-Ma's.....
