Swami Ishanananda:

One day 'Mini' the dearest cat of Radhu, lay huddled at a corner of the courtyard. Yamini-didi stood by it fondling it with her foot. Soon she touched its head as well with the foot. At this Mother cried, "O Dear, what are you doing? The head is the seat of the guru; should one ever place one's foot on the head? Salute her."

Yamini-didi apologized. "I never knew such a thing, Mother. I only learnt it today."

A few devotees came from Calcutta in the morning who looked very smart and had an abundance of clothes. They brought fruits and many other things for Mother. At evening Mother was muttering to herself, "How they worry me! I can stand it no longer. Sometimes one of my sons comes and my whole household seems to be full of bliss; all the necessary things - vegetables and other stuff seem to come naturally from somewhere, and I have nothing to worry about.

"They are satisfied witrh whatever dishes they are served with; they eat silently, fold up their leaves and rise. Ah, even a word from them makes one's heart glad! And look at this now, I seem to be on thorns from the morning on. They have brought a heap of fruits, half of which are a rotten mass, and I am at a loss where to throw them away.

"They have cleanly washed clothes, but they say, 'We forgot to bring the towels.' Where am I to get towels? But somehow I managed this at that time. Now I am worried about what curries to cook at night. And it comes to my ears that they have no strings to put up their mosquito curtains; and so Hari is running about for the strings. Now, Master, take care of your own house, I am played out. One one side there is Radhi and on the other all these!"
