Swami Ishanananda:

In the month of ShrAvana (July-August), Mother came to Jayrambati with Radhu. About fifteen to twenty of us then belonged to her household. Mother herself looked after the personal convenience of each one of us. In the course of a talk, Mother said to me one day, "My son, what a thing Kedar uttered the other day! I thought he had a very liberal mind. It was absolutely unbecoming of him to say like that.

"Understanding the state of his mind, I left quite a barnful of paddy for the Ashrama. But later on he refused to take it - he realized his mistake and begged pardon of me."

With this she related the whole incident of that day. "That morning, when he came to pay his respects to me, he complained, 'Mother, these boys were formally very obedient to me; but now they have become wiser and they refuse to follow me off and on. And if they go to Sharat Maharaj, yourself, and others, you all keep them back with you with love and in comfort, and they get good food as well. If you don't grant quarters and send them back with some persuasion, they will obey me.'

"I replied, 'How so? How you talk now? Love indeed is the basic thing with us. It is through love alone that his (Master's) organization has taken shape. And I am their Mother. How could you then dare to talk to me criticising my children about their food and clothes?'"
