A Devotee:

In 1917, I went with a friend to see Mother again at 'Udbodhan', during the DurgA pujA holidays. We took two sAris for her and placing them at her feet, bowed ourselves. She blessed us and said, "Why do you bring me sAris, my sons? You are so poor yourselves."

We were a little hurt and said, "Mother, your rich sons bring you fine sAris. Yous poor sons have brought these coarse cloths. Please accept them and fulfil their heart's desire."

Immediately Mother said, "My sons, these are costly silks to me!" and she put out her hands and took the sAris....

In 1917, I had written to Mother from Ranchi, just before the Master's festival, asking for her benedictions. She wrote in reply, "I cannot put into words how happy your letter has made me. You are the children of the Master, he will befriend you on all these auspicious occasions. Have no fear."

(to be continued....)
