11 August, 1918:
As soon as I went to Mother today, the talk turned on cooking....I said, "Shokaharan would like me to make something for you. If I make something will you take it."
"Why not, my dear, you are my daughter. But don't prepare a large quantity, only a little. I am not quite well and you will have to carry it all this way."
"Very well, just as you wish," I answered. With this I took my departure.
When I arrived with the refreshments the following day, Mother cried, "Look now, she has gone through all this trouble for these things!"
"Why do you ask for them? That's why she brings them," Nalini said.
"Why should I not ask from them, from my daughters?" Mother answered. "Is it not most fortunate? What do you say, my dear?"
"Certainly, Mother," I confirmed. "We are overjoyed that you should ask for anything out of the kindness of your heart."
It was very late when I went to see her today. As I was coming home with the offerings I said, "I am afraid, I may not be able to come tomorrow, Mother, we have been invited to a wedding."
"That's all right, my dear. If you don't come tomorrow, I shall know that you have gone to the wedding."
