30 September, 1918:
Today was MahAshtami. Mother had asked me to come and I had arrived in the morning with my sister. We came and saw that some women disciples had brought flowers. They worshipped Mother's feet and went to bathe in the GangA. Mother asked me, "I hope you will stay? It is MahAshtami today."
"Yes I shall stay," I answered.
A little later the revered Sharat Maharaj came to make his obeisance to Mother and I went into the adjoining room. Mother sat on the cot, with her feet on the floor. Many other disciples also came and bowed to her.
Later I went to bathe in the GangA with Maku and the others. Mother bathed at home today, because she only went every other day now owing to her rheumatism. On our return, I saw crowds of women worshipping Mother. Many of them had brought sAris for her.
After worshipping her they wrapped these sAris around her, just as they wrap sAris around the Goddess at Kalighat. Mother, in her turn, looked at each piece and laid it down. From time to time she would say, "That is a fine piece of cloth!"
A BrahmachArin came with the news that the male disciples would now like to come and pay their respects. It was a lovely sight. They came bearing flowers, blooming lotuses and bel leaves; each worshipped her in turn and stood aside. A long time passed in this manner.
