Sarayubala Devi:

October, 1912:

Chandra Babu's sister had come, and in the course of conversation she said, "Is Mother's husband alive? I suppose these are all her children and daughters-in-law and so on."

"What!" I cried in amazement, "have you never heard of the Master? The essence of his teaching was the renunciation of a worldly life (literally, of lust and wealth)."

She was embarassed and said, "I thought these were her children."...

Later, I told Mother about Chandra Babu's sister. She said, "Why did you not say, O yes, there's her husband in that room over there and we are all her children."

I answered, "But, Mother, the whole universe is filled with such children!"

Mother laughed. Afterwards she said, "Different people come here with different ideas. Some one perhaps offers a cucumber to the Master and prays earnestly, 'Master, I have given you such and such a thing, now you must do this and that for me', and so on.".

(to be continued....)
