Sarayubala Devi:

13 February, 1911:

Gradually, many ladies, all devotees of Mother, began to arrive. Melting with devotion they all gazed upon Mother's smiling and affectionate face. I had never seen the like of it.

In a charmed mood, I observed everything, when the summons came for me to return home, for my carriage had arrived. Mother arose immediately and taking a portion of the offerings pressed me to eat, holding it close to my lips. I felt somewhat shy and received it in my hands.

As I took my leave and prepared to depart, she said, "Go now, my dear, but come again. Will you be able to go downstairs by yourself?, or shall I come with you?" And she moved with me to the steps as she spoke.

"Mother, I can go down by myself." I replied. "Please don't come."

"Very well," she said, "then, come in the morning, one day."

I came back this time with a satisfied heart, wondering at her strange love.
