Sarayubala Devi:

We sat down. Mother came back soon after, with her hands loaded with consecrated sweets for us and said, "Please give some to my *daughter-in-law (Sumati) and take some yourself." Sumati had to go back to school soon, so we made our obeisance to Mother and departed soon. Mother said, "Do come again." I had seen her for five minutes only. That was not enough, I came home unsatisfied.

13 February, 1911:

Holy Mother was at Balaram Babu's house that day. I waited for a short while at her Baghbazar house before she returned. As I raised my head after my obeisance she asked smilingly, "With whom have you come?"

"With a nephew," I answered.

"Are you keeping well?" Mother asked. "Is my daughter-in-law (Sumati) well? You haven't been here so long. I was wondering if you were sick."

I was amazed. She had seen me on that single occasion and for five minutes only; yet she had remembered me. Tears of joy came to my eyes.
