A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"
(available at all Vedanta Centres)
Udbodhan, 7 July, 1912:
Mother said to me: "One has to suffer the consequences of one's deeds. But if one prays to God, one may escape with the mere prick of a pin when one had really a gaping wound in store. Japa, austerities, etc. greatly modify one's destiny...."
"Then karma is the chief motivating force behind the world," I interjected. "So why should one believe in God? The Buddhists, for instance, believe in karma, but not in God."
"Then do you mean to say that KAli, DurgA, Krishna, and others do not exist?" Mother protested.
"Is it then a fact that japa, austerities, etc. can change one's fate?" I asked.
"Why should they not?" Mother replied. "It is good after all to do a good thing. For good brings good, and bad bad."....
