Swami Arupananda:

Mother listened to all this and said to me, when I had finished

eating, "Why don't you have a bath? You have walked a long way."

She gave me betel to chew.

After the midday offerings, she sent for me and with her own hands gave me food before anyone else. She served the rice and other dishes on sAl leaves. I sat on her own veranda and ate. "Be sure to eat your fill, my son", she said. Afterwards she gave me betel.

When I came again in the afternoon between three and four, I saw her sitting on the floor in the corner of the veranda before her room, her feet stretched out, kneading dough. Beside her was a small coal fire on which the afternoon refreshments were to be made.

"Did you want anything?" Mother asked when she saw me. "I should like to have a few words with you", I replied. "What about? Do sit down." She placed a carpet seat for me.

(to be continued....)
