Sarayubala Devi:

20 September, 1918:

I went to see Mother again, today. As soon as she saw me, she said, "Sit down,dear...They have been talking about (Swami) Bhaskarananda (of Varanasi). I too went to see him at Varanasi. There was a large number of ladies with me. It was just after the departure of the Master and I was very sad. That was also the first time I visted Vrindaban. When we reached Bhaskarananda's place, we discovered him seated, unperturbed, stark naked...as he did summer and winter alike."

Later, Mother said, "Come, read from the Master's book, Sarala is back at her boarding house, she reads to us as a rule."

In the course of the reading we discussed meditation and spiritual experience. Mother said, "Golap and Jogen here have prayed and meditated much; it is good to talk about these things. If they listen to one another's experiences, these girls here may be impressed."

When we began to talk of spiritual experience, Mother would not speak freely and appeared unwilling to discuss these matters before everybody.

Nalini said, "Aunt, I have heard of people who have communion with the Divine, who see and touch the Lord; then why do I not receive anything? Even after living so long in your company, what have I received?"

"Why should they not find grace?" Mother replied. "Such devotion and faith they have! One must have faith and devotion to find these things. Do you possess them?"

"Tell me, Aunt," Nalini continued, "I have heard that you can see into people's hearts, can you really? Can you say what is in my mind now?"

Mother smiled, but Nalini was insistent, Then Mother said, "They speak through faith." Then she went on, "Who am I? The Master is everything." She folded her hands and said, "Pray to the Master that I may lose all thought of self."
