Swami Arupananda:

16 August, 1912, 5 p.m.:

"What did you do during the (Shorashi) pujA?" I asked Mother.

"Well, after a time I had no sense. I did not know what had happened."

But Lakshmi-didi told me that later the Mother had said to her, "At the commencement of the pujA, he put lac on my feet, vermilion on my brow, and draped a new cloth around me. He then put some kind of sweetmeat and a little pAn (betel) in my mouth."

"What did you do when you regained consciousness?" I continued to question Mother.

"I mentally prostrated myself before him and then came away," she answered.

I asked, "It was the night of KAli pujA, there were so many people about, did no one come to hear about this pujA?"

"But the doors were closed," she explained. "There were music and festivity in the temple, everyone was busy. Besides, what had they to do with him, except to see him and touch him, that was all."
