"There are open fields in our village, so we get dark. And we had to work hard too," Mother explained.
Sister Nivedita came and bowed to Mother and took her seat. Mother enquired after her welfare and then presented her with a little fan that she herself had made with wool, saying, "I made this for you."
Sister Nivedita was overjoyed, holding it to her head, to her bosom, crying, "How lovely! How beautiful!" She showed it to us, "Look what a lovely thing Mother has made for me." Mother said, "She how happy she is with such a simple gift! What simple faith! She is like a goddess incarnate! How devoted she is to Naren and how she loves this country!"
Sister Nivedita was telling Mother about her intended visit to Darjeeling. When Radhu came in, Mother cried, "Now bow to your elder sisters, Radhu."
"No, no, why should she do that?" Sister Sudhira protested. "Why not?" said Mother, "you are her elder sisters."
A BrahmachArin came in and asked Mother if the disciples could now come to pay their respects. "Ask them to come in," said Mother and she pulled a wrapper round her person and sat down to receive them.....
