Sarayubala Devi:

18 September, 1912 :

Mother then climbed to the terrace with others. After a while she came downstairs to see to the offerings for the Master and all of us went into the prayer room....Afterwards we all ate of the consecrated food....

Two ladies, followers of Mother, had arrived before this, one was an elderly married woman who had known the Master, the other was her daughter-in-law. As she ate, the old lady said, "Alas! We have not been able to do all the things the Master told us. Had we done so how could we have suffered like this?
Here we are wrapt up in our worldly lives, worrying all the time over unimportant details!"

Whereupon Mother said, "At the same time, it is essential that one should work.. It is through work alone that one may break asunder the bonds of karma, only then one is free from desires. One shouldn't be without work even for a single moment."

After the meal, Mother rested...I remained with her, together with an old widow who had known the Master. She went on recounting her sorrows at home and added, "Mother, I can count on your pardon for all my ommissions and commissions, but not on theirs."

I asked the old woman, "Did you see the Master?"

"Indeed I did. Why, he used to come to our house. In those days Mother used to live in seclusion like a young married woman."

(to be continued....)
