A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"Â
(available at all Vedanta Centres)
Holy Mother lived outwardly like a householder. While at Jayrambati she preoccupied herself with household duties, preparing vegetables, cooking, sweeping the house and the courtyard, washing clothes and dishes, kneading dough, worshipping in the shrine, and with infinite patience and compassion looking after the comfort and welfare of her relatives and visiting disciples.
Her apparent attachmnet to her relatives puzzled some of the devotees. One day Jogin-Ma, her intimate companion and a spiritiually advanced soul, said to herself, "We have seen how the Master renounced everything. But Mother appears to be completely entangled in worldly life. Day and night she is busy with her brothers, nephews and nieces. "
The next day she was meditating by the GangA when Sri Ramakrishna appeared before her in a vision and pointed out the corpse of a newly-born child moving slowly with the current. It was covered with the placenta and smeared with blood. The Master said to her, "Does the corpse make the GangA impure? Look upon her [referring to Holy Mother] in the same way. Never doubt her. Regard her and me as one and the same."
