(available at all Vedanta Centres)
Some months ago, Mr Narayana Iyengar of Bangalore had come on leave to stay for a few days at Koalpara. Noticing that Mother had to spend a lot, he gave her some monetary help. When leaving the place, he said to her, "Mother, whenever there is any want of money, kindly write to me without hesitation."
The expenses at Jayrambati are now very high. Reverend Sharat Maharaj has intimated that he is obliged to be late in remitting money, as it takes time to get it together. Hearing this letter, Mother remarked, "That shows that Sharat has not much money in hand. Else why should he write like that? Narayan uttered those words the other day. But my dear, how can I beg money of him? Master, shall I not be able to follow your last instruction?
"Radhi, I am risking everything for your sake. The Master said, 'see that you don't spread out your hand to anyone even for a pice; you will never be in need of ordinary food or raiment. If you ever beg a single pice of anybody, then you will sell your head to him for ever. And yet living on charity is much better than living under somebody else's roof. The devotees may keep you at their own houses at various places with love and honour; still you must not destory your own house at Kamarpukur.'..."
