A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"Â
(available at all Vedanta Centres)
At Dakshineswar, the Holy Mother, with one or two exceptions, did not exchange even a word with the Master's disciples and devotees. But an elderly lady of Karmarpukur, much respected for her wisdom, said to her that the Master's disciples were like her own children and that she should not hesitate to accept their invitation. She therefore made up her mind to go to Calcutta.
After her arrival in Calcutta, Holy Mother was joined by two prominent women disciples of the Master, Jogin-Ma and Golap-Ma, who after some time became permanent members of the household and stayed with her to the very end. The three often meditated together.
Holy Mother at this time had many spiritual experiences, including the highest nirvikalpa samAdhi, in which she realized her identity with the incorporeal soul. She also performed the austerity of panchatapA, the "Ordeal of Five Fires" The aspirant is required to meditate with fires lighted on four sides of him, while the sun blazes overhead. For seven days, she meditated this way from sun-up to sundown. This gave her inner peace.Â
