A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"Â
(available at all Vedanta Centres)
One day I prepared the bread and other eatables as usual, and then after dusk I went to Mother's room to read to her the letters from the disciples. A lady disciple wrote very often, her letters being full of various forms of praise of Mother. When I summarized one of the letters for Mother, she said, "Well, at times I think, I am after all a daughter of Ram Chandra Mukherji; and there are many other girls of my age at Jayrambati. What's the difference between them and myself? The disciples come to show their respects to me from somewhere, nobody knows.
"On inquiry I hear that somebody is a judge, while somebody else is a lawyer. Why should they come in this way?" With this, Mother kept quiet. After a while I asked, "Well, do you not always remember your real nature?"
"Can that always be possible?" said Mother. "If that were so, how could all these works be carried on? But even in the midst of work, whenever there is a desire, a little thought wakes up an insight, and the whole play of mahAmayA (Great cosmic power of God) stands revealed."
"Well, Mother," somebody put in, "as for ourselves, we don't have the slightest illumination, try how hard we may."
"It will certainly come," assured Mother. "Why should you worry at all? It will all come in due course."
