Swami Ishanananda:

One day I came to Mother after evening when I had finished all my outdoor duties. Mother said, "This afternoon that boy brought to me a police officer of high rank (naming him at the same time). The man seemed to be of a very discourteous nature. He came twirling his moustaches, saluted me and then wanted to have the dust off my feet.

"I felt shy and could not at all allow him to do so. He seemed to be restless, and yet the boy went on praising him to me within the officer's hearing. As for myself, I was very much worried, thinking how to show him our welcome. At last I prepared some hAlwA (butter, semolina and sugar cooked together) and sent it to the outer apartment."
