A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"

A few incidents come to my mind showing how the disciples used to vex Mother.
Mother was then at Jayrambati. Returning from Shyambazar, a little after dark, I found Mother lying on a mat on the veranda. As soon as I reached there, she said with evident distress, "You are all there to be sure; but you have often to be out on business. A man, somewhat advanced in age, came today.
"At his very sight I went in and sat on my cot. He saluted me from outside, of course; but then he became very eager to have the dust off my feet. The more I felt shy and said, 'No no', the more pressing he became, till at last he took the dust almost by force.
"From that time on, I am suffering from an unbearable burning sensatiom in the feet and a pain in the stomach. I washed the feet three or four times, but the pain still persists. If you were near by, you could have understood my hint and prevented him. The strictness that they observe with regard to the devotees at Calcutta cannot be altogether done away with. What a variety of persons come! You are too young to understand all that."
