A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"Â

Sister Sudhira, who had been the Principal of the Nivedita School, was staying at Jayrambati at that time. Mother called me during the day and said, "Sudhira would like to go to Vishnapur with you. Please be very careful. Keep her cart between two of yours. You are my own people, my sons."
"Certainly we shall take great care of her," I assured her. "We shall escort her just as you say."
As we sat down to dinner that night Mother remained near us, talking to us.
The next day we went to see her at about two in the afternoon. She was sitting on the floor, in disarray. There had been fearful floods in the Damodar that year. Mother asked, "My son, are the people in great distress?"
I told her what I had heard or read in the papers. She listened with attention and then said compassionately, "My son, work to remove the sufferings of the world."
As I took my leave praying in my heart to be vouched the capacity to serve her in the cosmos, I heard her whisper, "Money, money, money, all the time!"
I shuddered to hear her speak of money. She must have noticed my deep embarassment and explained, "No, my son, money is useful. Don't you see how Kali (a younger brother of Mother's) hankers after money all the time?"
