Swami Ishanananda:

On another occasion, a boy came to Mother as soon as he was released from police custody. He arrived at evening and prayed for initiation. In those days the police kept a strict watch on the Ashrama, and so the Head asked him to go away. When Mother got this news, she said, "Alas, under what trouble and with how much eagerness the boy must have come! If you can arrange to keep him in somebody's house for the night, then I shall initiate him early next morning and ask him to depart."

According to this hint, I kept him elsewhere. Early next morning I was proceeding to Radhu's house with Mother, when the boy met her on the way after his bath. Mother asked me to fetch a little water from a nearby pond, which I brought in a glass. Then she seemed to be searching for something, and I asked, "Shall I get a seat?"

Mother replied, "No, you need not go again. Just spread some hay on the ground so that we may sit." When I had done so, they sat on that hay separately, and Mother asked me to move away a little and then initiated the boy.
