Swami Ishanananda:

One or two days before the birthday of Sri Krishna, I expressed my desire to Mother to be initiated on that day. Overhearing this, Golap-Ma cried in her natural loud voice, "Such a small boy (I was then thirteen years old), he will forget his mantra in two days, and yet he must have his initiation even now! How thoughtless of Kedar! Mother belongs to your part of the country. When she goes there, you can have your initiation some day in future after riper thoughts."

With this she left the place. Then Mother said, "See, how Golap talks. Can anyone forget what one learns in boyhood? Let him do whatever he can from now on, and for the future I am there to be sure!"

On the birthday of Shri Krishna, Mother initiated me after the pujA of the Master, and noticing that I had made my japa just as she had instructed, she said, "That's it! Why shouldn't one remember this much? Certainly one will. I shall show you eveything else in future as the need arises."

Next she stroked my head and chest with words of blessing, and then leaving her seat she said, "Come with me". I saluted and followed her to the adjacent room, where she took two sweets from a vessel hanging from the ceiling, bit off a piece from one of them, and handing over the rest to me said, "Eat". Noticing that I felt shy and stood there with the sweets in hand, she said, "Don't feel shy, one has to eat some prasAda after initiation". And she offered me a glass of water.
