Swami Ishanananda:

At the time of the DurgA pujA a devotee was coming to Jayrambati with a basketful of lotuses. As soon as he saw me from a distance, he saluted me with raised hands with the basket of flowers in them. Mother noticed this from afar and told me later on, "These flowers can no longer be offered to the Master (they having been indirectly offered to the writer), so throw them away."

Noticing that we used two cloths with white borders, she remarked, "What is this? Why have you put on white-bordered cloths? You are young; so put on cloths with coloured borders. Otherwise the mind will become old. One's mind should always be fresh."

With this she took out two pieces of cloth from the box and gave one to each of us.
