Sarayubala Devi:

28 September, 1918:

Today I went there in the morning. Mother was cutting fruit; on seeing me she cried, "Come, my child, come. This is the day of Invocation (of the goddess DurgA)." - This I had quite forgotten - "Do sort out these flowers for the Master and arrange them and put aside these trays of fruit."

I did as she said. Afterwards Mother went into the adjoining room, in order to prepare herself for her bath. She brought a pot of hair oil and a comb and seated herself near my lap. As I hesitated to touch her head, she cried out like a little girl, "Go on, comb my hair."

I proceeded to obey her, when Radhu came back from her bath and said, "I would like to have some flattened rice with curd." Mother mixed some flattened rice with curd as she sat there, and touching a little to her own lips, gave the dish to Radhu. I had finished combing out her hair and was now applying oil to it.
