A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"

14 August, 1918:
When I went to see Mother today, I found her in conversation with the sister of physician Durgapada Babu. There were also two girls from the boarding house and a young married woman from Dacca. They were all seated around Mother. I prostrated myself and took a seat.
The physician's sister had been widowed quite young. Now there was trouble over her husband's property; his sister's sons were responsible for this. The result was delay in securing probate. They discussed this for a long time.
In the end Mother said, "Since you cannot sell it or give it away, you had better place the management of the property in the hands of a responsible person. Can one ever trust materially-minded worldly people? Only people who have renounced the world can resist the temptations of wealth. But do not worry my dear. Everything is in the hands of God. You have always been a good woman, why should the Master make you suffer? Yes, dear you may go now, but write to us and come again."
Hardly had she taken her leave when Kaviraj (i.e. physician) Shyamdas Babu arrived in order to see Golap-Ma. Mother waited for a while, in case he should visit her. Later when she heard that he had left, she lay down and glancing at me said, "Now you may do your duty." I began to rub her with oil.
