Sarayubala Devi:

October-November 1914:

There was no lack of flowers in our Ballyganj house. Knowing how pleased Mother would be if one gave her flowers, I gathered a load of flowers, and went to Mother early one morning. She was about to begin her pujA and was delighted when I laid out the blossoms. When she saw my ShefAli flowers, she cried, "How nice of you to bring these. In the month of KArtika, one should worship with ShefAli flowers. I haven't been able to offer any to the Master, this year."

I had not put aside any flowers, and had been thinking that I would not be able to offer any today to Mother herself. But in the end, I noticed that Mother had thought of everything, although I had not.

She had smeared all the flowers with sandal paste and consecrated them, but had set aside some of them beside the tray, for my use. Her pujA over, she called to me - "Come now, dear, I left some flowers for you on the tray there, bring them with you."

At this moment a disciple came to see her with gifts of fruit. Mother was pleased to see him, she put a sandal mark upon his forehead and touching his chin, kissed her own fingers. I had never before seen her show such affection towards a male disciple. Then she said to me, "Give him some of your flowers, dear."

The disciple accepted the flowers with folded hands. I saw that his whole body was trembling with love and devotion. With great joy he placed the flowers at Mother's feet, received the fruit she had consecrated, and went away. I heard that he had come from Ranchi. Then Mother seated herself upon her cot and called to me, "Come now, my dear."
