Sarayubala Devi:

1 August, 1918:

Mother: "On another occasion, it so happened that Naren had been walking on the mountain for three days and was on the point of fainting when a Muslim fakir offered him a cucumber which he ate and saved his own life.

"On his return from America, Naren noticed the man standing in a corner at a gathering at Almora, and taking him by the hand made him sit in the middle of the assemblage. Everyone was astonished, but Naren said, 'This man saved my life.' and related the whole incident.

"He also gave the man some money which he would not accept, saying, 'What did I do that you should give me money?' But Naren wouldn't hear of it and insisted on his accepting."
