Mother: "When I first came to Calcutta, I had never seen a tap. I went into the wash-room one day and found the tap hissing like a snake. In a panic, I rushed to the other women and cried, 'Come and see, there is a snake inside the tap!' They laughed and said, 'No, no, that is not a snake, don't be afraid. The tap makes a hissing sound before the water flows out.' Then I too had a hearty laugh." Saying this, Mother laughed again. Such sweet and open laughter! I too could not help laughing and wondering at her simplicity.
"Have you ever seen the Master's festival at Belur?" she asked me.
"No, Mother, I have never been to Belur." I replied. "I am told that the monks do not approve of women visitors making a clatter there. That is one of the reasons for my not going there."
"Why not go?" Mother insisted. "Do go and see the festival of the Master."
