31 January, 1913:Â
Mother returned from Varanasi on 17 January. When I went there in the morning, she had almost completed her pujA. PujA over, she arose and said, "So you have come, my dear, I was afraid I wouldn't see you, I am going to my village home in a few days."
I had brought some sweets I had made, and Mother said, "I was getting anxious because I didn't have enough for the Master today, but he seems to have procured his own sweets and home-made at that!"....
The morning advanced. Radhu had her breakfast and was ready to go to the missionary school in front of the house, when Golap-Ma said to Mother, "Radhu is growing up, there's no sense in sending her to school any longer." She then asked Radhu to stay at home and Radhu began to cry.
"What do you mean by grown up?" Mother protested. "No, let her go. To be able to read and write and do some handiwork will be so much to her advantage. We have married her into a family in the village; if she knows these things it will benefit not only herself but others as well."Â
"What do you say, dear?" She asked, turning to me.
In the end Radhu went to school.
