Sarayubala Devi:

14 May, 1911:

Mother and I went upstairs, and setting out two helpings from the consecrated sweets on two sAl leaves, she took one share herself and giving me the other, asked me to sit down near her and eat.....

Gradually a large number of ladies gathered; I did not know any of them. I was told that they would all partake of the consecrated food at midday. After the offerings had been made, we all sat down to eat. Mother took her accustomed seat. Three times she touched her lips with the rice and calling me to her, gave it to me. I accepted it. Such a fragrance came to my nostrils as makes me wonder even now.

Afterwards the food she consecrated was distributed among all those present. Golap-Ma seated everybody and herself sat down last. Mother now commenced to eat, laughing and talking all the while. When I saw this I heaved a sigh of relief, because from the moment of my initiation until this moment, she had seemed a different person - solemn, her mind turned inwards, a veritable goddess able to chastise and bless. I had cringed with awe. After this incident, I have seen her give initiation to many people; everythng was over in three or four minutes and I never saw that solemn mood again.

(to be continued....)
