Swami Arupananda:

Udbodhan, 1 May, 1912 (Full Moon Day of VaishAkha):

"Would you like to come back again, for the sake of those who love you?" I asked Mother.

"To be born is to suffer," Mother replied. "Enough, no more, I would not like to come again."...

There were letters from Mother's brothers with prayers for financial help and news of quarrels and disagreements. "Give them plenty of money," I suggested. "Tell the Master. Let them enjoy themselves to their fill and then they will have no more attachments."

"That will never happen," Mother said. "They will never become detached, however much one may give them. People who are worldy-minded cannot become detached. They are always complaining about their troubles. Kali is always wanting money. Now Prasanna has begun to imitate him. Varada never wants money. He says, 'Where will sister get this money from?'"

"Neither does your crazy sister-in-law ask for money," I added.

"On the contrary, if one gives her money, she throws it away."

"Why were you born there?" I asked.

"Why? My parents were very good people," Mother explained. "Father was devoted to RAma. Mother was most kind-hearted. She would feed people, take care of them, and she had a simple heart. Father was very fond of tobacco and would call to all those who passed before the house, make them sit down, and ask them to have a smoke. He would get the things ready himself."...
