Swami Arupananda:

Belur Math, Wednesday, 16 October, 1912:

On the day of the immersion of the image, Doctor Kanjilal was in the boat with the image, making funny faces and up to various kinds of antics, and most of those present were laughing inordinately. There was a Brahmacharin present, who had a somewhat refined taste. He was much annoyed by this display. Mother was in the garden on the north side of the Math, looking on and enjoying everything.

I said to her, "Mother, some people are blaming Doctor Kanjilal for acting like that before the image of the goddess."

"Oh no, there is nothing wrong in that," Mother replied. "The goddess must be entertained with songs, music, and merrymaking."

Mother stayed only for the duration of the pujA and then returned to Calcutta from where she left for Varanasi after a few days.
