A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"
(available at all Vedanta Centres)
Uncle Varada arrived to read Mother's letters to her. There was one from my elder brother begging Mother to send me home. The letter was brief but beautifully worded.
"Ah, what a lovely letter!" Mother commented. "Why not go back and remain in the world, get married, and make money?"
I knew she was testing me and said, "Please don't speak of such things any longer."
"So many people lead wordly lives, that it will not matter if you don't do so," Mother said.
By this time I was in tears. Filled with compassion, she cried, "Do not weep, my son, you are from God Himself. How many people can give up everything for the sake of God? When a perspn takes refuge with God, life's goal changes - God Himself reverses his destiny. What happens when a man finds God? Does he grow a pair of horns? No, but he can distinguish between good and evil, discover knowledge and pass beyond the reach of life and death. You must find Him in your meditations. Who has seen more than this, to whom has He actually spoken?....It is in spiritual transports one sees Him, talks with Him, and so on."
"No, Mother, surely there is more," I said. "One may actually see him."
