A READING from: "In The Company of The Holy Mother"
(available at all Vedanta Centres)
My conversation with Holy Mother turned to creation, and I asked, "Were these infinite numbers of creatures - big and small - created at the same time?"
Mother replied, "Did God create one by one like a doll-maker who paints with his brush the eyes, mouths, noses etc. of his dolls gradually? No, He has a power: with His 'Yes' everything in the world comes out, and not one thing after another."...
I now asked the Mother about japa and the like.
"Japa and austerities untie the knots of past misdeeds," she said. "But the Lord cannot be attained without love and devotion. Do you know what japa and the like are really meant for? They remove the influences of the senses."
We fell to talking of Lalit Chatterji, who had been lying seriously ill for some months. The Mother was very fond of him and was filled with anxiety about him. She said. "Lalit used to give me a great deal of money and take me for drives in his carriage. He spends large sums in the service of the Master at Dakshineswar and Raghuvira at Karmarpukur. My Lalit has a heart of gold. Very many people who possess wealth are miserly."
