One of Holy Mother's nieces played a very important part in her life and in the fulfillment of her earthly mission. This niece was the only daughter of her youngest brother, who at the hour of death had begged Holy Mother to look after his pregnant wife.

Radhu was the name of the posthumous child. After the child's birth her mother became mentally unbalanced. A clue to Holy Mother's intimate relationship with Radhu may be found in a vision she had after Sri Ramakrishna's passing away.

At that time she had lost all relish for life. Suddenly in a vision, she saw a girl of ten or twelve years old walking about in front of her. Soon Sri Ramakrishna appeared and said, pointing to the girl, "She will be the support for your earthly life. You must live because you will have to help many people in the years to come."

Many years later the baby Rahdu was crawling behind her insane mother and crying piteously. As Holy Mother watched them, she said to herself, "The poor child has lost her father, and her mother is stark mad. If I do not look after Radhu, what will happen to her?"

She took her little niece into her arms when the Master appeared and said, "This is that girl. Take her for your support. She is the mAyA to keep you tied to the world."
