"Mother," I said, "I am afraid." She replied, "No, you need have no fear. It is as the Master wills."
2 January, 1910: Today is Mother's birthday. The preceding day Prabodh Babu had given Mother's brothers five rupees for offerings to the Master. "Well, you mustn't make a grand affair of it," Mother said to me. "I shall put on a new sAri; and some sweets and other things will be prepared and offered to the Master. I shall have a share of them - that is all."
When the pujA was over, Mother sat on the cot by the door in her own room, her feet hanging down. She was wearing a new sAri. Prabodh Babu went in and placed flowers at her feet. I was standing on the veranda outside the door.
"Well. aren't you going to offer any?" Mother said to me. "Here take these flowers." I took the flowers and placed them at her feet.
